All British Day, Uraidla Oval Sunday 8th February 2009
Sunday was a pleasant surprise in the change in temperature from the low 40C of Saturday to Sundays high 20c with some cloud cover and a breeze. Fifteen members of the VVMCCSA attended with a few not attending. We were located nearly in the middle of the oval opposite the feature car club the Morgan Car Club. When we arrived, we found our allocated area surrounded with bunting on all sides and a marquee and chairs enabling members to spread out our motorcycles and sit back in shade and enjoy the day. Brian K had his sectioned AJS on display.
Our location was ideal, we were some distance away from the BSA owners club enabling the public to see two groups of motorcycles unfortunate we did not win the coveted best motorcycle display that went to BSAOC, they had more motorcycles and sold regalia. I hope that next year we can expand the number of motorcycles and have greater display of early veteran and vintage British motorcycle which this club is renowned for. Ron Truscott displayed his rebuilt Norton 600cc OHV Model 19. This very same machine that was ridden in the mid 1960s at Murray Bridge by Phil Flatman and Brian Kuerschner on the old kidney shape track under lights way before ever proper speedway was run there. It was called short circuit racing. Many riders cut their teeth so to speak at Murray Bridge who went on to race at Rowley Park. A big thank you to Brian Kuerschner for organizing and setting up VVMCCSA display area. Brian Forth.
