Early Birds' Run, Sunday 20th January 2008

Sunday was another pleasant day for a motorcycle ride through the lovely hills of the Mount Lofty Rangers. The traditional 7 AM start was a bit of a challenge for some, but quiet hills roads and a hearty breakfast beckoned.

The weather in the morning indicated a pleasant day, but in the valleys of those hills a cool ‘nip’ could be felt in the air and in places a light sprinkle of mist formed on the helmet visor, was it dare I say rain or low cloud? If I am correct it was wet inclement weather last year we went to Hahndorf swap meet.

The ride up the Gorge Road was (if possible) more spectacular than usual - the combination of cool morning air and traffic-free roads is hard to beat.

Breakfast was a sit-down affair at the Highercombe Golf Course. It was going to be hard to get moving again!

Club Captain gathered the riders together and we headed off via Cuddle Creek, Lobethal, Woodside and finally to the Hahndorf Swap Meet. We were a bit late but were welcomed by the organizers and displayed our motorcycles. Members wandered off, browsing for that elusive ‘thingumabob’ - you know that item you have to have then try and work out how to carry it home? It was a large swap meet, I think the weather enabled the organizers to entice a large number of traders and buyers. Lunch time came quickly, members gradually departed to home – via the bakeries in the main street.

Thanks to Ray Mann for organising the run.
